Creighton Ranked No. 1 in Midwest by U.S. News & World Report

For the 13th year in a row, Creighton University has earned the No. 1 ranking for Midwest Regional Universities in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s 2016 “America’s Best Colleges” edition.

“The entire community at Creighton University is honored and humbled to again earn this top regional ranking,” said Provost Edward O’Connor, Ph.D. “This truly is a reflection of the University’s commitment to its mission of Jesuit, Catholic higher education. The ranking underscores the collective effort of our dedicated faculty and staff at Creighton. We are grateful for this continued recognition of Creighton’s vision for excellence.”

The announcement comes just weeks after Creighton welcomed the largest freshman class in school history with 1,069 new students, eclipsing the 1,000 mark for the second year in a row and fourth year in school history.

Creighton also ranked as the second best value in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report, No. 1 for Best College for Veterans and No. 3 for Best Undergraduate Teaching in the region. U.S. News & World Report rankings criteria include academic reputation and peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

This spring, U.S. News and World Report also asked top college officials to identify institutions in their Best Colleges ranking categories that are making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities. Creighton earned a No. 3 ranking for Most Innovative Schools in the Midwest Region.

The University also achieved the following rankings in the magazine, based on peer surveys:

  • No. 14 for Finance
  • No. 19 for Accounting

Creighton was also one of 49 schools around the nation recognized for its commitment to undergraduate research. The recognition stems from U.S. News and World Report's 2015 invitation to academic administrators of 1,500 colleges and universities to nominate up to 10 institutions doing the most innovative undergraduate research projects.
